This project develops degradable, low-cost sensors for environmental and infrastructure monitoring that reduce electronic waste. By studying material leaching from discarded electronics we identify harmful components and replace them using a safe and secure by design approach. The sensors, featuring modular, optically active elements and encapsulated engineered bacteria, detect parameters like strain or pollutants and enable remote readout.
